Be as unhappy as possible…

We read it everywhere, we see it everywhere, YouTube is full of it, influencers, and everyone else talks and posts about the fact that we need to be happy, that we need to think positively, and also about the reasons why we need to be happy... there are millions of books that tell us this. When you walk into a bookstore, I'm sure you've noticed that there are dozens of books in the personal development section that tell you something about your happiness.

When there are tens of thousands of pages that tell you how to avoid being unhappy, it's almost embarrassing to admit that you are unhappy. It reaches the level of a social stigma.

Contrasts are the building blocks of the soul. Like death, suffering is an unavoidable part of life. I can't recall who originally said it, but it perfectly captures what I want to tell you today. If there were no clouds, it would be impossible to appreciate the beauty of the sky. Furthermore, the sky will appear more stunning the darker the clouds are.

I want to share with you that in order to fully appreciate what it means to be happy, it is sometimes necessary to first understand what it is like to be unhappy.

Sometimes, it is necessary to experience sadness in order to fully appreciate the joy that can be found in laughing.

Sometimes, it is necessary to go through hell first in order for you to be able to enjoy heaven.

Sometimes, it is necessary to walk through the mud in order to get a true appreciation of how beautiful the shoes are.

When you have the need to be unhappy, give in to that desire and be unhappy. If you feel the need to cry, then do so. It is not necessary for you to stand in front of a mirror and repeat inspirational phrases to yourself about how strong you are.

Be vulnerable and let sadness, and unhappiness manifest. It is imperative that you give all of the storms in your heart approval to consume themselves.

It’s so ok to be vulnerable!

It is not necessary for you to rush to the nearest library in order to begin looking for books on how to get rid of your pain. You need to go to the first available room, close the door behind you, stay alone, and cry so much while having a conversation with yourself until you become too exhausted to stay awake and fall asleep. So that later, in the morning, after the tears have washed your soul, you wake up fresh and beautiful with a smile on your face. This will happen after the tears have had time to work their purification magic.

Be unhappy, suffer difficulties, then you will smile.

Just be aware, and kindly ensure that the unhappiness does not persist for a prolonged period of time. Do not isolate yourself further if you have the perception that, despite your efforts to be vulnerable, they were not sufficient. Someone once said that depression is nothing more than a lack of connection, and I believe that to be true. Connect with the person next to you and talk, open up, and be vulnerable again, but this time to the person you trust in order to free yourself from the feeling that the clouds in your beautiful sky are still dark.

Be as unhappy as possible, expose yourself to vulnerability, and cry until you feel better; then, let the tears set you free.

Because you know that there is a rainbow after every storm…:)
